Today was a busy day for Microsoft as they revealed their next generation console, the XBOX One.
The shiny black XBOX One, which only operates horizontally and looks more like a set-top box then console, comes with a slot-loading Blu-ray drive and is powered by a custom AMD created 40-nanometer chip with an 8-core CPU and GPU. The console also has a 500GB hard drive, 8GB of RAM, USB 3.0, and 802.11n Wi-Fi.
The XBOX One will feature a HDMI providing pass-through to a cable or satellite operator’s set-top box allowing users to change channels with their voice, multitask between TV and gaming, use a TV guide directly from the Xbox, Skype, Internet Explorer, and more. Voice and video capture functionality are all conducted via the newly redesigned Kinect Sensor bar which is included.
Microsoft’s event took a little over an hour, however, the team at The Verge were nice enough to have broken down the announcement into the attached four minute video.
